Sofa & furniture removal
Sofas, armchairs, wardrobes, beds and tables carried out and taken away. Upholstered seating kept separate and sent for incineration, as the rules require.
Old mattresses from any room, in any size. We carry them out, with the divan base and frame if you want those gone too, and dispose of them properly.
A mattress is awkward rather than heavy. It folds the wrong way on the stairs, won't fit in most cars and sags off a roof rack. Once it's out of the bedroom, it tends to end up in the yard or propped against the side of the house, where it soaks up the rain and doubles in weight. Get in touch while it's still dry and indoors, and we'll bring it down and out without you lifting an end.
Mattresses aren't covered by the POPs rules for sofas and upholstered seating, which surprises people. That doesn't mean they can go anywhere. They're bulky, built from mixed materials such as springs, foam, fabric and sometimes latex, and need to go through a licensed facility. Leeds City Council lists £15.99 as the minimum legal cost to dispose of one mattress, before labour. It's a useful figure to remember if someone offers to take yours for less and won't say where it's going.
We take single, double, king and super king mattresses, cot and children's mattresses, memory foam toppers, and divan bases with or without drawers. Bed frames and headboards can come too, dismantled if they won't fit down the stairs in one piece. Landlords and businesses replacing several mattresses at once get a waste transfer note with the collection, because waste from a rented property being cleared counts as commercial rather than household waste.

Tell us the mattress size, how many there are, and which floor they're on.
A photo confirms the condition and shows any base or frame going with it.
We take it down the stairs and straight to the van, so it never sits outside getting wet.
It goes to a licensed facility, with a receipt for you, or a waste transfer note for landlords.
Mattresses are outside the Environment Agency's POPs guidance for upholstered seating, but they're still waste you have a duty of care for. Hand one to an unlicensed collector who dumps it and it can lead back to you; Leeds City Council says that can mean a £200 fixed penalty. Mattresses cleared by a landlord from a vacated rental are commercial waste and need a waste transfer note. Futons and sofa beds count as seating, not mattresses.
Worth reading: Leeds council bulky waste collection or a private waste carrier?. For a few items, the council is often the cheaper choice and we'll say so. Here's how the council collection and tips work at the time of writing (October 2026), and when a private carrier makes more sense.
No. The Environment Agency's guidance on upholstered domestic seating containing POPs specifically leaves out mattresses, along with beds, curtains and small scatter cushions. A sofa bed or futon is different: those count as seating, so they're kept separate and incinerated. An ordinary mattress goes through a licensed facility like other bulky waste.
Leeds City Council's unwanted items collection does take mattresses, but a bed counts as four items (frame, slats, mattress and headboard) against a limit of five per collection. Items must be outside your boundary by 7am, and landlords can't use the service. At the time of writing the first collection each year is free, then it's £30.
Yes, though a wet mattress is heavier and messier, so mention it when you get in touch and we'll bag it before loading. If a mattress has been dumped on your land by someone else, that's fly-tipping, and you can report it to Leeds City Council rather than paying to clear somebody else's waste.
Yes. Waste from clearing a rented property after the tenants leave is commercial waste under the duty of care code, so Leeds tips won't accept it. We collect it, complete a waste transfer note in the landlord's or agent's name, and keep our own copy. Let us know how many mattresses there are and which floors they're on.
Yes. Metal and wooden frames, divan bases, bunk beds and headboards are all fine. If a frame won't come out in one piece we'll take it apart. Adjustable electric beds are fine too, but the motor and controls count as electrical waste, so mention them when you get in touch and we'll load them accordingly.
